In North America we’re very predictable when it comes to the ingredients we add to our morning coffee, however recently we’ve seen a shift as people are starting to venture into traditional spices and organics.

Take the Unicorn Frappe for example. Traditionally made as a latte with blue green algae, lemon, ginger, honey and coconut milk – the blue green algae is a superfood with many antioxidants and high in energy and mood-boosting B12s.

Another new drink you really need to try is Golden Milk Coffee. Golden Milk Coffee is made with turmeric, which has anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. If you’re a bit skeptical, don’t worry – we were too but we had to try it!

Turmeric has many health benefits and is believed to be the most powerful spice on the planet. It’s also one of the most frequently mentioned medicinal spices in science. There are over 6,000 peer-reviewed articles published, highlighting the health benefits of this spice!

Turmeric is not only an anti-inflammatory herb, but also increases the antioxidant capacity of the body. Oxidative damage is believed to be one of the mechanisms behind aging and many diseases, which turmeric will help protect against.

So, we made our version of the Golden Milk Latte using coconut milk and oil, as well as turmeric!

Golden Milk Coffee

You’ll need:
  • 1 OneCoffee Breakfast Blend pod, brewed at 6 oz
  • 1/2 cup of coconut milk
  • 1 tbsp ground turmeric
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil (melted)
  • Honey as sweetener, to taste

Mix coconut milk, ground turmeric and melted coconut oil together and heat on the stove for approximately 5 minutes, stirring often.

Mix using a hand-blender – you want to create frothed milk like a traditional latte would make using a steaming wand. Using a hand-blender does the trick well because it’ll add air to the milk and give it a nice fluffy texture.

Brew a coffee pod using your Keurig at the 6 oz setting. We always recommend the 6 oz setting for brewing coffee in your Keurig to get the best flavour out of your coffee grounds.

Add the golden milk and serve.

We recommend a medium roast blend in this coffee to play well with the savoury characteristics of the turmeric, adding a touch of acidity to the finished drink.
